Author: Raquel Harte This past month did you receive a candy gram from a friend? Did you attend the Hawaiian Dance? Did you put money in the brown envelope on a Monday morning? You may not have even noticed, but many of the things you participated in this past month may have brought a smile to a family you have never even met. All throughout the month of December, holiday-themed events happened every day at Cameron Heights. Events such as mitten unwrapping, candy gram exchanging, and locker decorating, were all taken place in order to raise money for ESF, or the Empty Stocking Fund. This is an organization that raises money for people in our community who do not have the same privileges and opportunities as us and helps them during the holiday season.
Every year, Cameron fundraises for ESF, and over the past 10 years, we have raised over $60,000! Our goal for this year was $5,000, and we surpassed that goal immensely. All of the events, collections, and sales that the students of Cameron participated in allowed us to raise over $6,000 for the Empty Stocking Fund. Students at Cameron took this money to Walmart and bought tons of items that could bring joy to families all around the community this festive time of year. One of the most exciting events that took place was the sale of Krispy Kreme doughnuts. The doughnuts were available for preorder, but there were also doughnuts for sale the day of. The doughnuts (not-including preorders) were sold out in the first 10 minutes of lunch! This event really is extremely exciting and an amazing, great way to raise a whole bunch of money. During the month of December, there were also many music events that raised money for ESF, for example, Jazz Night and the Music Concert. All of the fabulous events were not only extremely fun but also for a good cause. Although not everyone celebrates this time of year in the same way, or even at all, the events at Cameron are a good way to get into the holiday spirit and feel good when doing so. Fundraising for the Empty Stocking Fund is an annual advent at Cameron Heights, so unless you are currently in grade twelve, you have at least another year to participate and contribute!
