Photo Project By: Arabella Abid Isidora Laketa, featured in the September issue of ChciChic also became the winner of Best Dressed September. Isidora is currently a senior, who plans to pursue a future in financial management, and her ultimately dream is to be work in a big, glass building in the middle of Boston and be rich and successful. Isidora loves romantic comedies, sweets, music, taking pictures (“duh”) and shopping. She hates cilantro, slow walkers, slow repliers, and selfish people. Her favourite colours are pink, blue, black, or white (she can’t choose!) What inspired you to wear the outfit in your ChciChic photo? “What I wore in my ChciChic photo was my favourite pants that I own. They’re hip. They’re different. They’re beautiful. I was very iffy on buying them… I have never owned pants like those, and just this summer I had started to want to dress different, [especially] to stand out from others. But the good thing is, that I like being different. The pants are bell bottoms, with different flower prints on the side of my legs. They reminded me of something that people would wear during the 90’s. I wore these pants because of the feeling I got when wearing them. I felt bold, brave, different, and beautiful. Of course lots of people were giving me weird looks, whispering to one another, but it didn’t bother me. I felt SO confident. CHCI hallways are my own runway.” Is there a piece of clothing you own that you really can’t see yourself living without? “One piece of clothing that I can’t see myself living without is 100% my pants. I am totally obsessed with them! The more people stared at them, the more I liked them. I enjoyed the attention of others, and all the attention my pants actually got. After I posted the beautiful pictures that my friend took of me, I actually got so many compliments on the pants. People said they were cool, and different. What’s so bad about starting a fashion statement?” If you could talk to your younger self about your style, what would you say? “One thing I would say to my younger self about my style is, be bold and be different. Stop trying to be like everyone else. You don’t need that pair of uggs that every girl is wearing...You don’t need that TNA sweater that all the girls are wearing. Wear something that no one else would dare to even try on. Being different and standing out is so important to me now, and I wish that younger me was more aware of that.” Do you have a favourite decade of fashion? Where do you get your inspiration from? “My favourite decade of fashion was definitely the 90’s… The Tartan skirts, flared pants, tube tops, popper joggers, baggy pants, (no, not boyfriend jeans), chokers, denim EVERYTHING… I love how different it all is compared to what people wear now. I only have one person that inspires me. Not a famous celebrity, not a friend. My mom. When I was younger I always thought what my mom wore was super weird, but now as I am growing up I keep finding myself wearing my moms clothes….Whoops. Sorry mom! My mom has the coolest clothes, and I hope one day when I am my moms age I am just as fashionable, and beautiful as she is.” In classic ChciChic tradition, we always end off an interview by asking what your top three favourite movies are (in no particular order!) “All I do is watch romantic comedies… So, How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Think Like a Man, and The Perfect Match. Highly recommended!” Thank you so much to Isidora Laketa for being on our account, and sitting down for an interview! Photo Project By: Arabella Abid Livvy Vanderveen is currently a grade 11 student. Livvy loves tacos, paddle boarding and rotary dial phones. She hates animal cruelty, pushy sales people, and getting stuck behind people who are walking really slowly. She hopes to pursue something in business or entrepreneurship because she wants to be her own boss! What motivates you to dress well? “A lot of what motivates me to dress well is my mood. If I am feeling happy or energetic I am more likely to put more effort into what I’m wearing. Another thing that would motivate me is a specific event that I’m going to because I usually like to plan well in advance so that I’m prepared.” What do you think the most underrated piece of clothing? Or even an accessory? “I think that the most underrated type of clothing is socks. Socks are really comfortable and I don't think they will ever stop being worn no matter what. They can be functional or fashionable!” What is your favourite outfit you’ve ever worn? “My favourite outfit I ever wore probably has to be from my graduation in grade eight. I wore a blush dress with lots of tulle and sparkly accessories. I think I liked it so much because it was the first time I’ve ever gone all out for getting ready and having a whole formal outfit that went together.” How do you think your style is going to change as you get older? “As I get older I think that my style will naturally change based on whatever type of career I choose to pursue. As of now I am considering going into a business program, so I guess that I would choose more of a business casual style. I think I’ll be fine with whatever type of situations come my way, and I think that my style will be impacted with what type of environment I’m in as I get older.” As a tradition we have at Chic, what are your top three movies? “This is a hard question for me because I love so many movies, but I think there are some things that make a movie your favourite. First off, I have to say Anne of Green Gables because it’s probably a movie that I will watch forever and never get tired of. Next, is probably The Karate Kid but the original one of course, because it's a classic. Lastly, I love High Strung because it’s one of my new favourites and I think it deserves more credit.” Once again, thank you to Livvy Vanderveen for being on the account and letting us interview you. Don’t forget to check back in September for the next year, and check out other fashion on the @ChciChic instagram account! Photo Project By: Arabella Abid Nate Skeen, the winner of Best Dressed November is currently a Grade 11 student. He hates war and racists, however, he loves conflict and resolution. In response to his post- secondary plans, “Bro, I ain’t got no clue.” What inspired the outfit that you wore in the picture that won Best Dressed? “It’s a nice shirt. Comfy. I bought it at Len's Mills store. I didn't buy it. I copped it. That’s it. Peep my soundcloud. Soundcloud.com/nateskeen. I like to wear two shirts at once. Okay. Next question.” Around what age did you start caring about your style? “I didn’t put a lot of thought into it until I wanted to look good, and then? I started looking goood. I used to wear a Led Zeppelin hoodie in grade nine and then I started wearing other clothes. I got hot. I stopped wearing the hoodie because I wanted to look goooood. I want women to like me, or men. I want everyone to love me.” What’s one item of clothing that you think everyone should have? “I think everyone, regardless of race, class, gender, or sexual orientation, should own a cardigan. I like cardigans and I like people who wear them. If you are an aspiring fashion star and you are wondering “What is the next step in looking good”? Cardigan.” What’s an item of clothing you really wish you had? “Well, that’s an interesting question. Isn’t it? I would like some glamorous coats for sure, perhaps a chain or some jewels. What is clothing? It could be the thing you clothe yourself in, or perhaps it's emotional closure. That’s the kind of clothing I want.” As a tradition we have at Chic, what are your top three movies?
* Let the record show that Nate Skeen did in fact pay for the item, and is an employee of the Lens Mills Store. * Let the record also show that Malcolm in the Middle is NOT a movie. Once again, thank you to Nate Skeen for being on the account and letting us interview you. Photo Project By: Arabella Abid & Sherwin Varkiani For November, we switched our location the Pool Wall. We thought it was so cool how different it looked from the rest of the school, and how original it was in terms of its design. It's definitely one our favourite backdrops. Here at Chic, we are brimming with so many ideas for the December/January edition (which will be combined since December is such a busy month, and January is exam season) so stay tuned for those, and thank you to everyone who let us take photos of you! Make sure you vote in the Best Dressed poll and Happy November!
